The UFC audience just experienced one of the biggest upsets in the history of the promotion as Edwards brutally dropped Usman in their rematch. The pair locked horns at UFC 278 and as expected Usman dominated Edwards throughout the fight. However, when everyone thought Edwards was done, the Brit landed a nasty head kick and it was all over for Usman. ‘Rocky’ became the first fighter to beat Usman in UFC and the moment was legendary.
Usman would have won easily via unanimous decision but unfortunately got caught via that vicious Kick. However, the fighter didn’t lose his mind and made a tweet to share with his fans and followers. Usman explained that these things happen and next time he will take revenge. He wrote :
“Champs f$ck up sometimes… but we bounce back and come with vengeance!! ????? #NGHTMR.’
During the post-fight press conference, when Dana White was asked about the rematch, White was positive about the fight in future.
“I don’t think he’d have to sit and wait anyway, due to the knockout. He wouldn’t have to wait that long. He’d have to go back into camp and start training again anyway. First of all, we’d have to have the date. We’re booked up all the way… I think we’re booked up to January. So there would be no waiting for him.”
“I believe he can beat Leon Edwards”- Khabib Nurmagomedov backs Kamaru Usman to win the trilogy fight
Khabib Nurmagomedov was recently interviewed and was asked about his opinions on the Kamaru Usman vs Leon Edwards fight.
While responding to it, Nurmagomedov revealed that he was shocked and a little upset as Usman is a good friend to him. However, the ‘Eagle’ believes Usman will beat Edwards in a rematch. Nurmagomedov also mentioned that after getting knocked out like that it’s hard for any fighter to go back. He said :
“I was surprised. You can say a little upset because I have good friendship with Kamaru and of course, it is hard to watch the best fighter in the world, who he is right now get knocked out severely…..I’m aware that the trilogy is already in the works. I believe he can beat Leon Edwards. But after such a knockout, a lot of people don’t recover. It will be interesting to see. But I would love to see a trilogy, they are 1 and 1.”
Nurmagomedov and Usman share a lot of mutual respect and the latter has attended Eagle FC’s events as an expert panelist many times. As Nurmagomedov said, it will be amazing to see Usman getting back and challenging for the title he lost.
