Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov share the same coach in the form of Javier Mendez. Now, Mendez believes that the retired Nurmagomedov is much more dangerous than Makhachev who is the current UFC lightweight champion.

Javier Mendez recently did an interview with MMAMania. The legendary coach talked about Daniel Cormier‘s comments about Islam Makhachev likely being more skilled than Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Okay, he’s more skilled in multiple areas. More dangerous? Nobody’s more dangerous, in my opinion, in the world, than Khabib. No one, I don’t care. I haven’t seen one that’s more dangerous than Khabib. In the sense of danger, meaning, you can’t do nothing to him. You can’t do nothing to him. Khabib’s the most dangerous in my opinion...
Javier Mendez said

Khabib Nurmagomedov has a reputation for being one of the best fighters in UFC history, similar to what his coach Javier Mendez said about him. Mendez emphasized Nurmagomedov’s dominant fighting style and exceptional skills in the octagon. Also interestingly Mendez said that he thinks Nurmagomedov has an exceptional jaw that can take a lot of heavy hitting. Reportedly, Michael Johnson was the only fighter who was able to rock the Dagestani a little bit.

Nurmagomedov had a legendary undefeated record in the UFC and three title defenses against top lightweight contenders under his belt. He became the champion when he won the fight for the vacant lightweight title in 2018 and then took his exit in 2021. Meanwhile, Islam Makhachev took over the lightweight division in 2022 when he defeated Charles Oliveira. Thereafter he defeated Alexander Volkanovski twice and will likely take on Dustin Poirier next marking his third lightweight title defense.

Why Dana White does not think Khabib Nurmagomedov is the Greatest Of All Time?

UFC CEO has always denied Khabib Nurmagomedov the status of being the greatest combat sports fighter of all time in the UFC. He has always showered that title to Jon Jones who is the current UFC heavyweight champion.

Dana White recently went on the Lex Fridman podcast where he did the same. White explained why Nurmagomedov could have been the greatest fighter of all time. He said: 

I think Khabib had the potential to be in the running for...He just didn't stick around long enough. First of all, he had injuries...He should have been where he got a lot sooner had he not had the injured and the setbacks in his career. But there's no doubt Khabib is one of the all time greats.
Dana White said

Khabib Nurmagomedov fought his final MMA fight in 2021 where he beat Justin Gaethje. After that, with millions of people watching worldwide, he announced his retirement from his fighting career, vouching never to return again. Dana White reportedly offered Khabib over $40 million dollars to make a comeback which he refused.
