“What about Jon Jones?”- Khabib Nurmagomedov receives criticism for leaving out Jones from his ‘list of champions’
Jon Jones and Khabib Nurmagomedov
UFC recently released the new pound-for-pound rankings of the fighters. To which, Khabib Nurmagomedov reacted via Twitter consequently getting a ton of reactions from the fight fans. In the new rankings, Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman is still the UFC P4P ace as he continues to win fights and maintain his dominance.
The Nigerian who defended his title thrice last year deserves to be at the top. Alexander Volkanovski stands #2 in the P4P as there is no one in the featherweight division who can touch the champion.
In the third position comes the ‘Last Stylebender’ who has defeated the top Middleweights twice in a row and is currently looking for new flesh to fight. In fourth place, a new face has arrived as Charles Oliveira beats Francis Ngannou in the rankings. Oliveira has been in exceptional form and has finished every lightweight in his division. Ngannou drops down a place in the P4P rankings and is currently the #5 fighter.
After the new rankings were announced, former UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov took this opportunity to congratulate all the top fighters. Nurmagomedov made a tweet in which he revealed that he is impressed by the list and UFC has some great fighters.
“Wow, very impressive list of warriors, they deserve everything. At he moment the @ufc has some very impressive fighters. @espnmma @danawhite,” wrote Nurmagomedov.
Twitter world reacts to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s congratulatory tweet for the best P4P fighters
This tweet by Nurmagomedov added many reactions from his fans and followers. Here are some of the reactions.
A Twitter user commented that Nurmagomedov is better than all of them combined.
“You were greater than all of them combined ♥️.”
One user claimed that Jon Jones should be on that list too.
“What about Jon Jones? His record and career are far better than any of the others?”
Another user highlighted the fact that most of the athletes on the list are from African origins and Volkanovski is the only fighter who is different.
“How good is it that amongst the athletically gifted Africans and the extremely technically Brazilian, there’s a short a** wog from Wollongong that grew up playing rugby league. @alexvolkanovski is a fuckin legend!!!”
Khabib Nurmagomedov is trying hard for Islam Makhachev vs Charles Oliveira title fight
Recently at UFC 274, Charles Oliveira defeated Justin Gaethje in the first round via submission. Oliveira proved yet again why he is the best lightweight in the division. But even after winning,’ Do Bronx’ didn’t take home the belt due to the controversial moment at the weigh-ins.
Now Oliveira is no longer the champ but the number one contender for the vacated title. This situation prompted Nurmagomedov to suggest White make the fight between Makhachev and Oliveira next in Abu Dhabi. He tweeted :
“Is there really a more interesting duel in the UFC at the moment than Islam vs Charles. Just bring these fighters to Abu Dhabi on October 22nd. Let the undisputed champion be determined.”
It’s clear that Nurmagomedov is trying his level best to get his teammate Makhachev the title shot. But there have been no official announcements regarding this from UFC. Let’s see how successfully will Nurmagomedov be in this quest if getting the title shot for Makhachev.
