Heavyweight G.O.A.T Jon Jones is the match to make, even away from the ring. The 27-1-0 out of Jackson’s MMA Acoma Gym was to headline UFC 295. But suffering a pectoral tear in training, the fighter had to pull out. Jones recently put hopes of any title contention on hold, revealing another subsequent surgery. Now, the fighter has responded to Khamzat Chimaev gunning for a dreamscape match with the 265lber.
Jones has held an unshakable influence in the promotion. Transitioning from 205lbs to the heavyweight class, he has taken the world by storm. Once lauded by Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov (of Team Khabib and AKA fame) for being able to beat all other 265lbers, Jones still holds on to that template. Recently, Chimaev named him as a ‘dream fight’. Here’s what Jones had to say to that:
Khamzat Chimaev stop it, don’t let people ask you those questions...Jon Jones on X
The response came from the fighter himself, on his X account. Speaking to the “Smile 2 Jannah” podcast, the 13-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC 185lber commended Jones as a dream matchup, regardless of weight class. “Borz” has nudged this in a platonic way, for any fighter. The interviewer had further asked who would win in their prime; with Chimaev choosing himself. Jones did not acclimate well to it.
Hence comes the jab in his reply. As of late, he has also been feuding with Tom Aspinall, snubbing his chances for the reason of an ‘unproven’ heavyweight legacy. The fighter upholds his own legacy rigorously and for good reason.
Reeling from training injury, Jon Jones gives update on having “great mobility”, and on relations with Dana White and Co.
Heavyweight Jon Jones very recently suffered a pectoral tear, in the lead-up to UFC 295. The fighter was to face Stipe Miocic but had to consequently pull out of the card instead.
The fighter also shut down Khamzat Chimaev’s hypothetical aspirations of facing him in a dream match.
Now, the fighter has taken to social media to give vital updates about his physical state. Concurrently, Jones also prompted that he has a better correlation with the promotion now.
This comes in light of the Anti-Trust Lawsuit, which saw releases of leaked texts from the promotion’s top honcho. Additionally, he also stated that he received a customary call for the historic UFC 300 fight card, despite his injured state.
Letting in on his injury and rehabilitation, the fighter stated that he has better mobility in his elbow and pectoral tendons. Jones also indicated healing rapidly.
The legacy heavyweight fight between him and Miocic is all but booked. The promotion has been hell-bent on the pairing, snubbing the likes of Tom Aspinall, and even a lucrative cross-promotion bout with Ex-heavyweight Francis Ngannou. Now it is just a matter of when rather than if.
