“You’re next” – Khamzat Chimaev gives surprising call out to Colby Covington after hinting at move to 185-pound weight class
Khamzat Chimaev and Colby Covington
Khamzat Chimaev seems to have a change of plans as the Chechen fighter shifts his focus from the middleweight division to the welterweight division’s “Chaos” Colby Covington.
No one but Chimaev knows what his next move is. The UFC phenom has once again rattled the fans with his recent Twitter callout for UFC’s former welterweight interim champion, Colby Covington. One would be lying if he said this fight does not interest him. However, with Chimaev you never know what his next move is.
Very recently Khamzat Chimaev hinted that he won’t be fighting in the welterweight division anymore and is looking to move to the middleweight division. Only 6 days later, the fighter has come out calling out the welterweight top fighter Covington.
Earlier today, “Borz” put out a tweet claiming that “Chaos” was his next opponent. The fighter wrote “Next” with an emoji of death. Khamzat has been wanting to fight Covington for quite some time and it seems like this is the right time. Check out Chimaev’s tweet.

Is Khamzat Chimaev the right matchup for Colby Covington?
Colby “Chaos” Covington has been very silent since his win against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272. Following the win, Covington was ambushed by his rival and was injured. Though Colby has not been very active on social media, several fans, and even the UFC boss, Dana White wants to book Covington against Chimaev.
There is no bigger test for a fighter who is close to the title shot than fighting Colby. “Chaos” is known as the gatekeeper for the title shot and with Chimaev’s recent run in the UFC, Covington will be his biggest test stylistically. Both the fighters are a gold mine for PPV sales and the promotion would already be smacking their lips at the number of buys when the two fight each other.
However, the biggest concern remains about Khamzat’s weight cut given he went through hell trying to make weight for his Nate Diaz fight at UFC 279. If the weight cut is not an issue, Chimaev vs Covington is the fight to make for the next welterweight title shot.
