Undefeated fighter Khamazat Chimaev is ready to make a comeback. Khamzat last fought at UFC 279 against Kevin Holland. Chimaev struggled to attain the weight limit at the PPV, and the UFC forced him to change his weight class. The UFC hopes to book a bout between Chimaev and Paulo Costa for UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi. However, Chimaev wants to challenge the former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman instead.
Khamzat Chimaev took it to another level when he tweeted about fighting Usman on the Nigerian fighter’s birthday. He wrote, “@USMAN84kg.” Usman will be the toughest challenge of Chimaev’s young career. UFC and Dana White remain the only obstacle in booking the fight. Chimaev cannot make 170 pounds, and Usman wants to fight in a catchweight bout. However, White remains disinterested in a catchweight bout.
Kamaru Usman called out Chimaev in an interview with ESPN MMA. Usman said, “For me, now, I’m just kind of in a place where it’s like, I’m having fun with it. I’m having fun. So, it’s like, ‘What’s the biggest, funniest, most intense fight that really makes me feel that?’ And, you know, there’s a couple of fights. That Chimaev is the fight right there.”
Chimaev and Usman want to fight each other. Dana White will happily book a fight in the middleweight division. White is a stern hater of catchweight bouts. He will book the fight if Usman moves to the middleweight division. However, Usman remains focused on retaining his welterweight belt. Plenty of complications at the moment stall a potential bout between Chimaev and Usman. However, fans were thrilled to see Chimaev challenge the former welterweight champion.
