Kevin Holland and Khamzat Chimaev
Kevin Holland’s stocks have raised drastically after agreeing to basically save the card which Khamzat Chimaev almost ruined with his ridiculous weigh-in mishap.
Khamzat Chimaev might have been the biggest name on the card leading up to this weekend but his weigh-in mishap at UFC 279 official weigh-ins surely did ruin his rep among fans and pros. Not only did Khamzat miss weight for his fight against Nate Diaz by almost 8 pounds, but the fighter also showed no remorse for his unprofessional behavior.
Kevin was scheduled to fight Daniel Rodriguez in a catchweight bout on the main card of UFC 279 which was initially supposed to be headlined by Khamzat and Nate. However, Khamzat’s weigh-in fails to lead to a domino effect of shuffling the entire main card.
When the Diaz brother shut down a fight against the 180-pound Khamzat, “Big Mouth” Holland was game to settle his own beef with Khamzat inside the octagon tomorrow. Kevin Holland was not prepared for a five-round fight but he himself demanded a five-rounder against Khamzat for the new co-main event.

After his successful ceremonial weigh-ins, Kevin spoke to Megan Olivi of ESPN MMA and gave his thoughts on the new co-main event fight that he would be fighting at UFC 279. “Five rounds was my request. The boy was tired as hell going against Gilbert Burns for three rounds, and I figured we’ll have fun for 5,” said Holland in the interview.
Kevin was initially supposed to go three rounds against D-Rod in the main card but that all was before the Khamzat fiasco in the weigh-ins. “I’m a black belt and I honestly believe I can tap out anybody. On the feet, I’m a kung-fu black belt and everybody’s gonna be kung-fu fighting,” said Holland boasting about his skills.
