‘UFC Legend’? ‘The American Gangster’? ‘The Bad Guy’ incorporated? Those are undoubtedly some good Octagon monikers. There are a plethora of such names for Chael Sonnen to choose from. However, “The next governor of Oregon” has a nicer ring to it. Renowned podcast host Patrick Bet-David seems to think so, after a recent sitdown with him. Make no mistake – he’s still going to uphold his ‘Bad Guy’ disposition. Sonnen often gets characterized as the guy who revolutionized sh*t-talking; for good reason.
Chael Sonnen doesn’t boast some of the best face-offs in UFC history. However, he had one of the greatest rivalries in MMA history going against his peer, Anderson Silva. Going up against Wanderlei Silva, his TUF: Brazil 3 moment is an iconic affair; there must be something with him and people named “Silva.” Currently, here’s what he said on the PBD podcast, to co-hosts Bet-David, Adam Sosnick, and Vincent Oshana:
From the time I was a little kid, I wanted to be governor of Oregon. And I will be the governor of Oregon…[On a timeline] Yes, yes. I don’t know that I’m going to, but yes I’m looking at that right now…Why we’re the second bluest state in the nation? It’s just one county, it’s Multnomah County and it’s Portland. And the Republicans come in every single cycle and they try to appease the people.

To this day, he is undefeated in his trash-talk mettle. He thrashes current lineups on his Beyond the Fight podcast even now. Hence, Sonnen’s political aspirations are sure to turn some heads. He mentioned running as a Republican, having expressed a certain degree of admiration for Republican Nominee, Donald Trump. Sonnen already rolled out some interesting notions – like deputizing biker gangs to deal with similar mobile crimes.
Goes to show his unique brand of sense of justice. Currently, he has analyst desk duty assignments at UFC 299. While Daniel Cormier, Laura Sanko, and Dan Hellie hosted the UFC’s official weigh-in show. He also co-hosts the ‘Good Guy-Bad Guy‘ MMA Weekly with Cormier. He also has a long ongoing feud going on with Jorge Masvidal.
A brief history of political aspirant Chael Sonnen’s feud with Jorge Masvidal
UFC veteran Chael Sonnen holds a special spotlight in the promotion’s history, despite having no title runs under his belt. The guy is so famous for his trash-talk mettle that Hollywood’s highest-paid debutant, Conor McGregor pays homage to him. In the Dubliner’s new movie, a prime scene resembles the iconic moment of ‘The American Gangster‘.

Having served as a Republican candidate for District 37 of the Oregon House of Representatives in 2010, Sonnen recently flirted with the idea. Confident of his unhinged mettle to stir up changes, he recently indulged in the idea of running for governor yet again. He even ludicrously wanted to deputize the Gypsy Jokers and the Mongols gangs and put a Harley Davidson on every block.
Goes to show that Chael Sonnen doesn’t pull his punches at any given time. He has a prolonged rivalry going with UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal. Check out his best disses and snippets –
While their last scuffle was for Sonnen’s preemptive advisement, the new one is about Sonnen threatening to choke Ariel Helwani (of MMAFighting on SBN). Accordingly, Masvidal, the inaugural “BMF”, said that he wouldn’t say all this face-to-face. Also, he threatened to consequently break Sonnen’s orbital in the process. Only time will tell what form this enmity takes.
