Fighter pay is an important point of discussion in the combat sports world. Influencer turned boxer Jake Paul made content out of the topic of fighter pay by bashing Dana White. Recently, Francis Ngannou made more for his boxing debut against Tyson Fury, whereas his total fight purse from UFC is just a couple of million. Now, in his second boxing match against Anthony Joshua, he will make more than $20 million.
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Rampage Jackson recently appeared on Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk. On the podcast, Jackson dispelled notions about the fighter pay between MMA fighters and boxers. This is what he said.
A lot of people are confused, so this is what it is: the top 1% MMA fighter and a top 1% boxer, like the Floyd Mayweather, the Manny Pacquiao, the whoever, whoever, the Tyson Fury, Anthony, those top 1%, they make more money than the top 1% MMA fighter... But, like the step down from that, the UFC fighters make more money than the boxers... Just not the top 1%, the top 1%, they're making the most money.Rampage Jackson via YT
Martyn had a different idea before Jackson explained it. Many, like Martyn, believed that MMA fighters were underpaid, whereas boxers are highly paid. However, Jackson clarified that only the top boxers earned big paydays. The difference in purses between a top boxer and a mid-level boxer is wide.
Jackson last fought in December of 2019. Rumors speculate of his returning to box Shannon Briggs in Riyadh. Jackson was one of the legends present to watch Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou in Riyadh. He is now a co-host of the JAXXON podcast.
UFC legend Rampage Jackson talks about relationship with Dana White
Dana White is a controversial figure. Some see him as the face of MMA. However, others see him as a brutal dictator of MMA. A UFC legend recently revealed his take on the controversy surrounding Dana White. On Bradley Martyn’s podcast, UFC legend Quinton Rampage Jackson talked about his relationship with White.
White and Jackson did have disagreements. However, he did not hold any personal animosity towards White. This is particularly due to his manager, Tiki Ghosn‘s good working relationship with White. Jackson had high praise for White for the UFC CEO’s contributions to the growth of MMA. Moreover, he also remarked that Dana White is a good person, not bad like many portray him to be.
Nonetheless, Jackson did not want to do business with the UFC CEO as he was not a fan of how Dana White did business. Dana White and the UFC are facing a class action lawsuit due to past business practices. If the plaintiffs become successful in their lawsuit, the UFC will have to pay billions in compensation.
