Welterweight title contender Colby Covington aims to win the title at UFC 296. The fighter had partaken in the UFC 296 Media Day before the matchup. Speaking to UFC veteran Daniel Cormier, “Chaos” deliberated on the fight ahead and on what advice close acquaintance Donald Trump had given him yet again. He faces Leon Edwards in the headlining title bout.

He faces Edwards after serving as the backup for the opponent’s last welterweight title contention trilogy with Kamaru Usman. DC and Colby talked about the US Capitol building. Cormier’s knowledge about the building shocked Covington. This is what he said:

Did you know there is a wrestling mat in the Capitol Building? I swear! I promise you - I took my youth wrestling club, and I was in Mark Wayne's office - the senator from Oklahoma. He was about to fight a couple of weeks ago; my team got to train in the bottom of the Capitol Building. There's a wrestling mat down there...

Even after retirement, DC continues to coach young athletes in wrestling. This was how DC came to know about the wrestling mat in the US Capitol building.

During the interview, Colby also talked about his ongoing feud with the brash trash-talker Sean Strickland. DC remains one of the few fighters on the roster who has Covington’s respect. Colby rarely swings insults at DC, unlike other fighters. The respect between the two remains high.

Colby Covington weighs in on Kamaru Usman vs. Khamzat Chimaev

UFC 296 marks Colby Covington’s third title bout when he faces Leon Edwards. Colby faced Kamaru Usman in his first two attempts at UFC 245 and UFC 268 for the welterweight gold. Usman, the former pound-for-pound king, recently lost against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294.

Now, appearing at the UFC 296 Media Day, Covington talked highly about Usman. This comes in light of Usman praising Colby in a segment with Daniel Cormier’s DC & Friends. Conversely, Covington also wanted to run back things with Usman one final time. Check out what he said in the below tweet:

At 20-4 MMA, 15-3 UFC, Usman suffered a majority decision loss to Chimaev in his middleweight divisional debut. However, Colby had a different opinion about the former rival’s match. He felt Usman had done enough to win the bout and would have defeated Chimaev easily in a five-round fight.
