UFC lightweight fighter Grant Dawson had some worse-for-the-wear opinions about Ian Garry. Garry, at 13-0 is a fast-rising welterweight contender, who was to face Vicente Luque at UFC 296 before pulling out due to illness. But the fighter has recently been in the news for all the wrong reasons. He has clashed head-on with Sean Strickland for defaming commentary on his wife, British reporter Layla Anna-Lee.

Garry’s controversial conduct and self-promotional tendencies also got him kicked out of Leon Edwards‘ gym. The fighter also has caught some flack for defaming rival Neil Magny.

Champion Sean Strickland had recently called out Garry as a victim of circumstances, having been ensnared by wife Anna-Lee. This was in light of the 2010 publication made by her called ‘How to be a WAG’; which is a guide on snaring celebrities. Recently, Dawson weighed in on these in an interview with James Lynch (of middleeasy.com).

I'm not a big Ian Garry fan, like, at all...I really don't like how he handled the Neil Magny situation, I really, really did not like how he handled the Geoff Neal situation… But you got to make money, so I get it, but then somebody dishes it out on you, and you start talking about getting the law involved and suing, and it's just like, how can you make yourself look like less of a man, even more?

Shedding light on the prominent pitfalls of poor self-promotion, Dawson also sheds light on other stuff. Like Garry’s diss at UFC 296 opponent Luque’s religious practices. And his subsequent decision to mute comments on his social media platforms. His invoking legality to diss Magny did not sit well with many.

Along with the controversy-ridden Dubliner, Dawson also drew the example of Paddy Pimblett. Pimblett himself garnered a lot of fan backlash recently, and the lightweight fighter deliberated on it as well.

Henry Cejudo advises the controversial Ian Garry

Ian “The Machado” Gary faces Vicente Luque at UFC 296. In the lead-up to the bout, the fighter has been the hottest topic of the promotion for quite a minute. From getting into squabbles over his relationship, to his gym etiquette; the fighter has seen it all.

Additionally, adding to the heap of misconduct is his defaming of Neil Magny, who he labeled as a “child abuser.” The fighter has correspondingly caught on much heat with the latter fighting a custody battle for his children.

Meanwhile, Henry Cejudo has weighed in on Garry’s latest string of misconducts and misfortunes that follow. Cejudo has advised that the Dubliner can bank on this air of negative sentiment around him, in the build-up to UFC 296. Resonating the idea of “no press is bad press,” check out what Cejudo had to say on the matter.

UFC 296 takes place at the famous T-Mobile Arena on Dec. 16, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is remarkably an all-out welterweight affair, with champion Leon Edwards headlining the main event.
