Luke Rockhold, a former champion, exudes unwavering confidence in his ability to take on Alex Pereira, another former champion. The 38-year-old veteran recently showcased his skills as a commentator during the Karate Combat event. There he discussed various topics, including the possibility of a future clash with “Poatan” (Pereira’s nickname).

Rockhold’s belief in his prospects against Alex Pereira stems from his exceptional grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expertise. Having attained black belts under Leandro Vieira and Dave Camarillo, Rockhold has achieved remarkable success. He has also won gold medals in both Gi and No-Gi world championships. In his MMA career, he has demonstrated his submission prowess, with eight out of his 16 victories coming via submission.

When asked about his thoughts on facing Alex Pereira, Rockhold expressed his confidence with a bold statement. He said, “Given just ten seconds on the ground, I will eliminate that individual.” This isn’t the first time Rockhold has raised the possibility of a bout with Pereira. In a previous interview with Submission Radio shortly after retiring from the UFC in September, Rockhold mentioned that if Pereira were to win a title, it might inspire him to make a comeback. He humorously stated, “That Brazilian guy winning the title, Alex Pereira… Every wrestler in the game will be eager to challenge him for that free belt!”

Rockhold returned from retirement and made his bare-knuckle debut at BKFC 41 in April, facing former UFC fighter Mike Perry. Unfortunately, Rockhold suffered a defeat via second-round TKO, leaving him with a memorable outcome of battered teeth by the end of the night.

Although die-hard fans religiously support Rockhold’s claims, many in the MMA community doubt Luke Rockhold‘s bold declarations. Alex Pereira has had a marvelous rise to stardom in the UFC with only five fights in the promotion. Meanwhile, “Poatan” recently made his shift to the Light-Heavyweight division and is set to face Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291. If the two were ever to clash, it would definitely be a spectacle to behold.
