“Changed my life for the better ,” Luke Rockhold recalls the time of abortion and breakup leading the path back to fighting

Luke Rockhold

Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold has sadly seen some unfortunate times that paved back his way for what he is known to the world for, fighting. Rockhold, who’s also the former Strikeforce Middleweight champion, is returning to the Octagon after a layoff of more than 3 years when he will face fellow middleweight and former title challenger Paulo Costa. Rockhold is 1-3 in his last 4 bouts and is therefore in huge need of a win to put a statement of his presence back in the 185 lbs division.

Rockhold in his prime had wins over the likes of Michael Bisping, Chris Weidman, Lyoto Machida, Tim Boetsch, Tim Kennedy, Ronaldo Souza and many more. Rockhold is going to fight Costa at UFC 278 taking place on August 20, 2022, in Utah, United States. The fight card is headlined by UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman making his sixth title defence appearance against #2 ranked welterweight Leon Edwards.

In an interview with Mike Bohn from MMA Junkie, Rockhold became a little more honest and open about his motivation to get back to training and find a winning path to the UFC gold of 185 lbs back again, just like when he was young and upcoming. Rockhold also talks about training camp for UFC 278, his time in the sport so far, and much more.

“I know it’s not a popular subject right now, but I did have an abortion, and I did have a big breakup… It just f**ked me up. It made me f**king transition and change my life for the better,” says Rockhold [h/t MMA-Junkie]

What do you make of Rockhold’s huge revelation into his personal life? Who do you think will win between Rockhold and Costa, provided that Costa makes the 185 lbs weight limit, unlike the last time? Rockhold is a former world champion and such a time taken off from fighting might just rejuvenate the person with much fresh energy rather than put on a ring rust issues.
