“The UFC is monitoring his weight” Luke Rockhold reveals extreme steps taken to make sure Paulo Costa makes weight

Paulo Costa has proved to be a lose cannon and Luke Rockhold revealed the lengths the UFC has gone to in order to make sure he makes the contractual weight

Luke Rockhold has been incessant on the fact that he truly does have a chance at regaining his middleweight title from the clutches of Israel Adesanya. The big obstacle in his way is Paulo Costa.

As MMA fans recently found out, nothing comes easy with the Brazilian from his controversial (but objectively hilarious) twitter statements to his antics in the fight week leading up to his bout against Marvin Vettori Costa has proven to be one of the most unhinged fighters in the organization. To bring you up to date, Costa was supposed to fight Vettori at 185 lbs but walked into fight week around 35 pounds overweight.

Many fighters come into fight week around 10 pounds over the weight limit that they cut down within 5 days to rehydrate and regain that weight after the weigh-ins. If Costa was to actually cut down to middleweight that week itself it would have probably been fatal for the fighter, hence the UFC agreed to a catchweight bout in order to salvage the main event, this was ultimately moved up to the LHW limit of 205, with both fighters making their debut in the division. When pointed out by Vettori that fighters have to make the contractual weight Costa said, “That’s your own personal problem” and dismissed the entire situation.

Luke Rockhold is trying to move back to his original home of middleweight after a failed venture into 205

On a recent interview with the Schmo, Rockhold was asked by the reporter about a hypothetical situation where Costa doesn’t make weight and asks the bout to move up a division, Rockhold replied, ” Little insight, there’s nothing to that, the UFC will be monitoring his weight weekly, and we’ll be dancing at a proper weight” dismissing the possibility of that happening.

Rockhold also revealed that there were further delays in finalizing the fight due to Costa’s unprofessionalism saying, “The star was supposed to be 2nd July, then it was the 30th now the b**ch is trying to move it August” hinting that it was Costa’s refusal to be fined that have led to constant delays in the bout being finalized.

Rockhold and Costa are now scheduled to face off on the undercard for the rematch between Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena at UFC 277 in Dallas, Texas.
