Mark replied to the question by stating that the FBI had already approached his company, warning them to be on the lookout for polarizing content, just as Russian propaganda made the platform it’s home around the 2016 US presidential election. He also explained that their protocol for such content is different from Twitter.

Following the NY Post story on the expose social media platform, Twitter took down the New York Post’s account for 16 days. The Facebook founder gave his take on the situation stating people would view the decision based on which part of the political spectrum they belong to.

Zuckerberg regretted how Facebook handled the issue but said the approach taken by the social media company was ‘reasonable’. The Meta CEO further expressed, “We just kind of thought, ‘Hey look, if the FBI — which I still view as a legitimate institution in this country, it’s very professional law enforcement — they come to us and tell us we need to be on guard about something, then I want to take that seriously.”

Upon further inspection by Rogan, Zuckerberg explained that they took a different approach from Twitter and didn’t outright forbid users from sharing the NY Post story about Hunter Biden. It still allowed its users to share it, but the story showed up less in people’s NewsFeed, meaning it got less traffic.

“The distribution on Facebook was decreased but people were still allowed to share it. You can still share it and consume it. The ranking and appearance on news feeds was a little bit less. So, Fewer people saw it than they would have otherwise. ” He added.
