Max Holloway takes on a steep challenge at UFC 300. He is moving up a weight class and fighting the violent Justin Gaethje. He recently boasted about being a ‘Gladiator’ and criticized the fighters unwilling to challenge themselves at higher weight classes. This faced a huge backlash on the internet. Now, the former champion fires back with a fiery response.

Facing questions like ‘Would Max Holloway face Francis Ngannou?‘, he looked furious and welcomed the challenge. He once again detailed his mentality and what made him different from others. Further, he argued about the role of fighters on the P4P list. Holloway said:

Bring it on brother! You think I care? That's why me and you guys are different. That's why a lot of the fighters are cut from a different cloth. Even some fighters are worried about certain weights, why? If you're on the pound for pound list, you should be willing to fight anybody.

Many fighters have shown some hesitation in moving weight classes. But Max Holloway certainly wasn’t one of them. In 2019, he took on Dustin Poirier at lightweight, embodying his very thought process. Moreover, he only had six weeks to prepare for his lightweight debut.

With this mentality, he remains the epitome of fighting anybody, anywhere, at any weight class! Earlier, some fighters even moved two weight classes for a fight. A prime example would be Conor McGregor moving up to welterweight from featherweight to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 196.

However, fighting up a weight class automatically puts a fighter at a size disadvantage. However, Max Holloway embraced such challenges. As such, ‘Blessed’ would enter UFC 300 with a chip on the shoulder to prove the critics wrong. This is a lightweight bout scheduled for five rounds with the BMF championship on the line.

Max Holloway details his move up to lightweight

Only a handful of fighters like Alexander Volkanovski and Dustin Poirier managed to defeat Max Holloway. Moreover, at 145 lbs, no one has defeated the Hawaiian fighter in the last ten years other than Volkanovski. Now, moving to lightweight, ‘Blessed’ gave some insight into how his training camp went and how he felt at the weight class.

Max Holloway addressed the existing criticisms about his loss to Dustin Poirier. He pointed out the difference in the length of the training camp and vowed to surprise everyone at UFC 300. Holloway said:

I always felt pretty strong for 45er (Featherweight). I feel even stronger now at 55 (lightweight). I feel more faster too. We were doing a lot more reactive stuff here...Everybody keeps bringing up the fight with Poirier - I just had six weeks for that camp, this camp we had ten or more weeks. At the end of the day, I feel strong, I feel great, I can't wait to go out there and prove.

Max Holloway looked primed both physically and mentally for his move up to lightweight. His physical transformation of putting on muscle mass has gone viral among the fanbase. As such, the hype for the BMF champion has only increased. Being the underdog, can ‘Blessed’ defeat ‘Highlight’ to produce an upset at the historical UFC 300? Only time will tell.
