Mirab is a great Little fighter - Pros loads praise for Merab Dvalishvili following his win against Jose Aldo at UFC 278
Merab Dvalishvili and Jose Aldo locked horns at UFC 278 in a much-anticipated bantamweight bout. Both the fighters are top Bantamweight contenders and a win was important to get ahead in the title opportunity.
Aldo came into the fight with an impressive three-fight win streak and was looking confident ahead of the fight. On the other hand, Dvalishvili was on a roll and was unbeatable in his last seven fights.
The fight was entertaining but Aldo failed to deliver as Dvalishvili outwrestled the Brazilian in most parts of the fight. At the end of three rounds, Dvalishvili was announced as the winner via unanimous decision.
It was a tough loss for Aldo as he was probably on his last run to UFC gold. The fighter is a legend and it was hard for fans to see him like that after such an amazing UFC career.
“It was a very emotional moment”- Merab Dvalishvili talks about sharing a heartfelt moment with Jose Aldo
Merab Dvalishvili gave his first interview after the win at UFC 278 to Ariel Helwani on his YouTube show, the MMA Hour.
During the interview, Dvalishvili revealed that Jose Aldo told him that it would be the Brazilian’s last fight. Dvalishvili explained that after the fight when he went to Aldo to pay his respect to the fighter, Aldo mentioned that it was his last title run and he would not continue MMA in future. Dvalishvili said:
“When he was down and I [went] to shake his hand and tell him, ‘Thank you so much for the fight,’ and I go to respect him, he was down, and I tried to help him, and he was telling me, he said, ‘That means this is my last fight because it was my last run to title…And then he said, ‘I guess I’m done.’”

Dvalishvili confirmed that it was an extremely emotional moment for him and Aldo. During that conversation, the Georgian commended Aldo for his amazing career.
“It was a very emotional moment”. Dvalishvili said. “That’s why I was talking to him. I said, ‘You’re amazing, you did so much, you don’t have anything to prove, you’re a legend – you’re a king.’ I was a little bit heartbroken.”
It’s common for fighters to be this transparent with each other after fighting for three rounds to get a finish. The hormones and emotions are generally high and fighters tend to spend it all out at the moment. While Aldo has not confirmed anything regarding his retirement, there is a high possibility that the former featherweight champion will hang his gloves pretty soon.
