It’s never easy to pick an opponent for the new boogeyman of the UFC roster, Khamzat Chimaev. However, Michael Bisping believes there is a name in the welterweight division that would be ready to throw it down against the Chechen star.
Khamzat Chimaev has become a huge star and is undoubtedly the biggest draw in the welterweight division. The Chechen fighter might not have the belt on his waist but it is pulling more numbers than championship fights. His fiasco at UFC 279 has only made him bigger.
Last weekend, Khamzat was scheduled to headline his first pay-per-view event against Nate Diaz at UFC 279. But the Chechen turned up weighing 8 pounds more than the contractual weight limit leading to him losing a spot in the main event. The fighter instead fought in the co-main event against Kevin Holland and absolutely ragdolled his new opponent.
Michael Bisping, former UFC champ, and now commentator was not there to call Khamzat’s fight live but was fully invested in the entire PPV given all the drama. After Khamzat’s difficulty in making weight, it is still unsure if Borz will continue fighting in the welterweight division. However, if he does so, Bisping has the perfect opponent in mind.
Michael Bisping wants more “Chaos” in Khamzat Chimaev’s fights
One of the fights that were proposed for Chimaev after he beat the former title contender, Gilbert Burns, was a stunning matchup against former interim welterweight champ, Colby Covington. Michael Bisping likes that idea a lot. In the recent episode of his podcast, “Believe You Me”, Bisping talks about Colby vs Khamzat.
“Who does he [Khamzat] fight next? For Khamzat, if it is 170, I don’t know. I would say a title fight but Leon Edwards is probably going to fight Usman. Who else is there? Colby?! Colby Covington would be f***ing good! That would be amazing,” said Michael on his podcast.
The fans too have been waiting for a matchup between Covington and Chimaev purely for the press conference. Many also believe Colby might turn out to be Chimaev’s kryptonite given his grappling skills and also his insane stamina. Would you like to see Khamzat fight Covington next?
