Islam Makhachev might have become the lightweight champion of the UFC but former middleweight champ, Michael Bisping does not see the Dagestani becoming a two-division champion.
Michael Bisping recently went live on his YouTube channel reaction to UFC 280 pay-per-view event that took place in Abu Dhabi and also was open to questions from the fan on his live stream. In one of the questions, a fan asked the former middleweight champion if he sees the Dagestani lightweight becoming a two-division champion. Bisping says no and here’s why:
“I don’t think so. Not because he hasn’t got the ability. It’s because Volkanovski is going to move up to 155 and he is going to challenge Islam. So, Volkanovski has the ability to become a double champ,” said Bisping. The UFC analyst believes Makhachev is “too big” to go down to the 145-pound division.
“If Islam beats him, well, they’re not gonna run that back straight away at another weight class. And Islam would have to go down to 145, and I can’t see him making 145,” said Bisping in his YouTube live stream. Makhachev and Volkanovski have agreed to fight with the lightweight title and the pound-for-pound status on the line in an upcoming UFC Perth fight card.

Leading up to UFC 280, Michael Bisping believed Charles Oliveira would pass Khabib Nurmagomedov as the greatest lightweight of all time if he beat Islam Makhachev. The MMA analyst also was leaning towards the Brazilian to win the fight against the Dagestani which upset a lot of fans.
After Makhachev’s dominant victory, fans wrote at Bisping for “disrespecting” the former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and demanded an apology. Bisping was sportive about picking the wrong fighter and respectfully responded to a troll from a fan.
Haha nah man. Islam was fantastic. I get picks wrong. Everyone does. The better man won and that’s all that matters. https://t.co/XxUk8OLWEL
