“He is the total package,” Michael Chandler envisions Paddy Pimblett nearing title contention when the former becomes the champion
Paddy Pimblett- Michael Chandler
Michael Chandler has his potential envisioned to peak at being a world champion only. Still, there’s someone he is seeing from very far coming rapidly down the line of title contention. Chandler, currently in the UFC who’s the former Bellator MMA lightweight champion, was last seen at UFC 274 when he viciously knocked out former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson out cold. Chandler has so far been in 4 UFC fights only but has made considerable statements in all four of them, even despite losing two of them.
Chandler recently attended the UFC London event and was thus open to a media scrum there as well. UFC London ended on a sad note when England’s own one-half of the main event headliner Tom Aspinall injured his knee within 15 seconds of the opening round leading the fight to a stoppage. However, England’s other prospect, lightweight Paddy Pimblett scored a spectacular second-round submission finish over Jordan Leavitt, leading the crowd to erupt in the O2 Arena.
Michael Chandler thinks Paddy Pimblett will be “nipping at his heels” in the near future with continuous wins
In his aforementioned media scrum, Chandler talks about his UFC 276 altercation with Dustin Poirier, his future in fighting and much more. Chandler then talked about Paddy Pimblett having one unique fighter both inside and outside the ring and how far the Scouser from Liverpool can go.
“He’s great man,” says Chandler “He’s a guy who’s in that perfect position whereas I am the guy who’s gonna be the champion in next 12 months, he’s going to be nipping at my heels coming into the top 15, top 10… he’s a marketable guy, he’s a happy guy, he’s a fun guy, he’s fun to watch, he’s fun on the microphone, he’s the total package and people can hate all they want but really they’re just being haters…” continued Chandler.
What do you make of Chandler’s thoughts on Pimblett’s potential not only as a skilled fighter but also as a potential megastar? Do you think Chandler will become a UFC champion within the next 12 months? Do you think Pimblett will become the second British fighter to become UFC champion after UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping?
