UFC lightweight Michael Chandler is one of the most exciting fighters in the division. Despite the recent losses, ‘Iron Mike’ is known for putting up some of the most violent fights in the UFC. Currently, Chandler is set to fight UFC superstar and TUF rival coach Conor McGregor. However, due to no official announcements, Chandler doubted the credibility of McGregor’s return to the octagon.
In his recent interview with MMA Hour, Chandler revealed the name of another one of his dream opponents. While discussing McGregor, Chandler called Stockton-based fighter Nate Diaz a ‘real fighter.’ Further, ‘Iron Mike’ wanted the fight due to his respect for Diaz and his achievements in his career. Chandler quoted, “I would love to get smacked and flipped off by him in the cage, that would be fun.“
Chandler could not quite recreate his Bellator success in his UFC career. Currently, he is 2-3 in the UFC, although all of his opponents were lightweight elites. The one-time title challenger is yet to make a statement in the new promotion. However, fighting against the likes of McGregor or Diaz could give him a chance for glory.
Chandler last competed in the octagon against Dustin Poirier in a third-round submission loss at UFC 281. Since then, the fighter has been negotiating his next fight with McGregor. Both McGregor and Chandler appeared in the Season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter. These dynamics led to the speculated McGregor-Chandler fight. However, if the McGregor fight fails, the former Bellator champion is ready to take on Nate Diaz.
Michael Chandler plans to fight Conor McGregor at the legendary UFC 300 card
The build-up to the fight between lightweights Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler has been full of twists and turns. After their TUF 31 appearances, McGregor and Chandler were set to fight in December. However, the fight was postponed to next year due to Conor’s issues with the USADA. There is no confirmation, however, which confirms the booking of the fight. The USADA regulations stipulate that a fighter should be in the testing pool for at least six months and test negatively twice before entering the octagon again.
In a recent interview, Chandler himself questioned the dynamics of the fight. However, the former Bellator champion was sure that if Conor were to make a comeback, it would be against him. After UFC releases cards 295 and 296, the McGregor-Chandler fight is bound to take place in 2024. In that case, Chandler believed that the duel between him and McGregor could possibly headline the legendary UFC 300 card.
The world is patiently waiting to see McGregor make a comeback in the octagon after two years against a formidable opponent like Chandler. However, the potential saga continues.
