“There’s no bigger platform” Michael Chandler is ready to welcome Conor McGregor back into the octagon with a fight
Michael Chandler wants to fight Conor McGregor
Michael Chandler believes he is the perfect guy for a Conor McGregor fight. “Iron” wouldn’t be more happier if he lands a fight against one of the biggest stars MMA has ever seen.
UFC superstar Conor McGregor never runs short of opponents to fight. The Irishman can now add lightweight star Michael Chandler to the list of his potential opponents in the octagon. Chandler might be training for a huge fight at UFC 274 against veteran Tony Ferguson but the former Bellator champ believes he could fight McGregor following his bout against El Cucuy.
Ahead of his huge fight on May 7th, Michael sits down for an interview with MMA Fighting and talks about his interest to fight The Notorious One. Chandler has been an absolute fan favorite following his performances against some of the best in the UFC. The fighter managed to land himself a title shot after only one fight in the UFC. His last fight against Justin Gaethje was the “Fight of The Year”.
“I want that Conor fight just for the magnitude of the moment,” said Chandler on his ambition to fight McGregor. “Stepping inside that octagon and doing something really monumental and fighting him in front of all the mixed martial arts eyeballs….you don’t get a bigger platform,” said Chandler.

Michael Chandler believes a win over him could get Conor McGregor a title shot
Conor has not fought in the octagon since his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. McGregor faced a terrible injury that sidelined him since then. The Irishman has been giving it all in recovery and is planning to make a comeback this fall. However, McGregor is adamant that he will return to a title shot. Chandler believes if that plan fails, a fight with him could interest Conor given a title shot would be just a win away then.
“I think I am a great guy for Conor. If he comes back and he doesn’t get that title shot he is going to have to go through somebody to get that title shot,” says Chandler in the interview with MMA Fighting. “I think I’m kind of that perfect guy right there, ranked about No. 5. If he comes in and gets a win over me, he definitely gets that title shot,” says Michael.
Chandler fought for the lightweight title against Charles Oliviera at UFC 262 and faced defeat in the second round via TKO. Justin Gaethje who beat Chandler at UFC 268 is now fighting for the title next month. Watch Chandler’s full interview below:
