“We’re in #1 spot,” Michael Chandler pits his finish at UFC 274 for knockout of the year against Molly McCann’s UFC London knockout from March
Molly McCann- Michael Chandler
Michael Chandler and Molly McCann have one thing in common, they both have scored a knockout for the ages in different fights at different times. Chandler is currently ranked the #5 lightweight in the UFC rankings and was last seen in action when he scored another electrifying front kick knockout over Tony Ferguson for the record book after the MMA community has seen it thrice earlier from the likes of Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida. Chandler, the former Bellator MMA lightweight champion, is so far 2-2 in the UFC.
Molly McCann is a UFC flyweight who is 13-4 in her overall MMA career and is currently on a 3-fight winning streak. Her last win came at her second UFC London event when she defeated Hannah Goldy via TKO in the very first round. Her second last win, a vicious spinning elbow knockout over Luanah Carolina, is already regarded as one of the greatest knockouts in women’s MMA history. McCann is a fighter from Next Generation MMA from Liverpool, England where she trains alongside UFC Lightweight Paddy Pimblett.
Michael Chandler believes that knockout of the year awards should be left based on the rest of 2022
Chandler showed up to the media scrum of this weekend’s UFC London fight card and talked about various things including his next fight, his altercation with Dustin Poirier at UFC 276, his thoughts on Paddy Pimblett and much more. In the midst of all, Chandler was also asked about whose knockout was to garner more awards, his front kick or McCann’s spinning back elbow.
“I do believe that spinning back elbow [from McCann], clean KO, was absolutely amazing,” says Chandler “I hope my knockout [front kick at UFC 274] holds on as KO of the year because I like to collect the awards here inside the UFC but she is definitely nipping at my heels. I think it’s definitely her and I at the #1 spot… but we’re only in July, so we’ll see…” he continues.
What do you make of Chandler’s thoughts on the knockout of the year competition between him and McCann? Who do you think will win the knockout of the year by the end of 2022?
