The UFC recently signed Michael Venom Page. Page will make his debut at UFC 299 against Kevin Holland. UFC lightweight champion Michael Chandler offered his perspective on the entry of Page to the UFC. Like Chandler, Page competed in Bellator, where he made his name.
Chandler spoke about Page’s entry to the UFC on the podcast of entertainer Steve-O. This is what he said about it on the podcast.
I got mixed feelings about him, I don't like his style. I think it's annoying. He just kind of moves around and moves like a, what's that, drunken, you know, like drunken karate warrior style where they kind of move around.Michael Chandler on MVP
Michael Chandler appreciates the style of Michael Venom’s page. However, he did not think that it translated well in the welterweight division of the UFC. Moreover, he thought that Kevin Holland was a terrible matchup for Page on debut. Furthermore, Chandler predicted Holland would win against Page. Nevertheless, Chandler is cordial with Page as a person but is not confident about his chances of success in the UFC.
Chandler made his UFC debut in style at UFC 257 against Dan Hooker. He finished Hooker in the first round and made one of the iconic callouts in UFC history. The callout was reminiscent of Ric Flair on his WWF debut. Next up for Chandler is a potential matchup with Conor McGregor.
Michael Chandler explains why he trolled Colby Covington on X after UFC 296 loss
Colby Covington fought Leon Edwards at UFC 296. Covington was unsuccessful yet again on his quest for a UFC title. Moreover, he attracted notoriety for his offensive remarks about Leon Edwards’ dead father. The UFC community wholeheartedly wanted Covington to lose at UFC 296.
Michael Chandler trolled Covington after the loss. Chandler used Covington’s remarks about patriotism against him in his troll tweet. On the podcast with Steve-O, Chandler explained why he trolled Covington. This is what he said.
Whenever you've created such a fake character, like you've become the character, it's like, well, I'm not actually hating on Colby Covington, the heartbeat, the guy outside of just the fighting. You're hating on the character, just like it's WWE. And funny thing is, I just, I think he crossed the line.
Like the majority of the MMA community, Chandler was also against Covington. It is one of the reasons why he trolled Covington. However, he acknowledged that Covington is a nice person outside the cameras. Nevertheless, Chandler believed that Covington crossed the line when he made the remarks about Edwards’ father.
