Michel Pereira has decided to transition to the middleweight division permanently. This is a change he openly welcomed. This strategic move came as a direct result of his past struggles when competing in the welterweight category. There, he endured the arduous process of shedding a considerable 45 pounds.
Returning to the 185-pound division has brought a sense of liberation for Pereira. It allowed him to concentrate more on his training without the daunting ordeal of weight-cutting. “I’m feeling very well as a middleweight right now…my body is a middleweight…,” Pereira passionately affirmed.
Pereira’s excitement for the middleweight division is palpable. He elaborated that, even during his welterweight days, he frequently trained with larger opponents. He revealed that he often found himself as the “larger guy” in the welterweight class. However, Pereira now believed that his body was naturally suited for the UFC middleweight category, making it a perfect fit. He went on to emphasize how this transition made a positive impact on his life outside of the fighting arena.
“I’m in love with my life right now,” he said. The liberation from the rigors of excessive weight cutting has elevated his spirits, even when he playfully quipped about his newfound joy during interviews. This was a stark contrast to his previous reluctance when he had to cut weight. In his upcoming appearance at UFC Vegas 81, Pereira will demonstrate his mettle as a middleweight, showcasing this weight category’s potential.
