Conor McGregor is notorious for keeping himself in the limelight. A newly released sparring footage does exactly that. The former two-division UFC champion has continued intensifying his training regimen this month. He shared recent workout footage as his highly anticipated return against Michael Chandler draws near.
The brash Irish superstar has stayed very active on social media, documenting his training. Conor McGregor looks focused on restoring the elite form that made him an international icon. He released a video displaying crisp, striking combinations. McGregor unleashed various combinations in a full-sized octagon. Several MMA accounts took up this footage.
McGregor is slated to fight dangerous Michael Chandler this summer or fall. It comes after a three-year layoff marred by injuries. The blockbuster matchup would potentially serve as the main event of the UFC’s annual International Fight Week pay-per-view in June. However, Dana White said it might happen towards the end of 2024.
McGregor has not won since January 2020, when he destroyed Donald Cerrone in just forty seconds. His subsequent defeats against Dustin Poirier sent McGregor for surgery and recovery. McGregor has vowed to recapture his prime form this year, as he seems healthy now. With each video update, McGregor looks increasingly fluid and focused on his return.
Fight fans reacted to Conor McGregor’s recent sparring video
Conor McGregor recently shared training footage ahead of his 2024 comeback. Fight fans showed concern about the caliber of McGregor’s sparring partners. Many believe training with subpar teammates risks McGregor’s attempt at redemption. Some even wanted McGregor to consider changing his gym.
McGregor had posted a video displaying crisp boxing combinations during sparring sessions. Fight fans quickly noted McGregor’s training partners offering little resistance during exchanges. His sparring counterparts appeared to largely absorb strikes while offering no offense. Several fans highlighted the need for elite-level training partners to replicate Chandler’s wrestling and knockout power. Here are some of the reactions from fight fans:
Without training against high-level fighters, fans insisted McGregor risked serious loss. Sparring exclusively with low-level partners elicited worries about McGregor developing false confidence. This will crumble quickly once pressed against superior opposition. Recruiting training partners to replicate Chandler’s skill set is necessary to expose his weaknesses for correction before the actual fight.
