UFC 281 was billed as one of the most highly anticipated PPVs this year when it was announced. Alongside two title fights, the main card also had Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler fighting on it.
The high stakes fight just wrapped up, with Dustin Poirier emerging as the winner. As advertised, the two fighters rushed into the brawl from the first moment. Although expected, Michael Chandler stormed forward in the early moments to parry with Poirier, and even had the native Louisianan hurt in the exchanges in the first couple of minutes. Dustin Poirier’s skill set, however, kicks in, usually, in the later moments of fights.
However, brilliantly, Michael Chandler was able to get Poirier’s back and stay there most of the second round, before wringing in the rear naked choke. Unfortunately for Chandler, the choke wasn’t primed under the neck – Poirier was able to escape without much damage.
Before the start of the third round, Dustin Poirier was told by his cornerman, to switch into action – and, that, he did! Early in the last round, Poirier brought out his own rendition of a rear naked choke, locked in tightly under Chandler’s neck, and finished the fight right there.
The tensions, between the two, however, did not cease to exist, as Poirier explained to Joe Rogan in his octagon interview that he felt that Chandler had fish-hooked him to get the choke in easier. Needless, to say, Twitter erupted with reactions to the win, and the cheating allegation by Poirier.
