UFC fighter Cain Velasquez, on Monday, was denied bail for the second time in his ongoing trail. Velasquez is the former UFC heavyweight champion and has been one of the biggest stars in combat sports history. Cain is also a WWE star and has millions of fans across the world.
Cain is accused for attempt to murder in an ongoing case against him. He was arrested on February 28, 2022, and is accused of allegedly chasing down a man named Harry Eugene Goularte, who is being accused of child molestation. It is believed that Cain’s relative has also been molested by Harry. It is also being alleged that after chasing the vehicle, Cain shot multiple rounds of fire at Harry’s vehicle, and another man in the vehicle, Goularte’s stepfather, Paul Bender, was hit by one gunshot in his arm and torso.
Cain was earlier denied bail in March when Judge Shelyna Brown of Santa Clara County Superior Court denied bail on the grounds that it would be a greater risk for not only the named complaining witnesses in this case but to Santa Clara residents at large.
Cain’s second bail plea has also been rejected, and the ex-UFC has been denied bail for the second time in this trial. Judge Shelyna Brown denied bail for the second time, once again condemning Velasquez’s alleged actions. Judge Brown said:
“This was such a reckless disregard for human life. In this case, it is not just Mr. Goularte and his family. It is every single citizen who was in danger of being shot or rammed by the vehicle at the time of this seven mile chase. So this court is not thinking of not only of Mr. Goularte and his family, but this court is considering every single citizen in Santa Clara county who was in proximity to this alleged incident.”
“You can’t take law into your own hands”- MMA fans have mixed opinions about Cain Velasquez’s bail denial
Following his arrest in February, the fighting community showed their support to Cain and his family. UFC fighters such as Daniel Cormier, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Ben Askren have shown their support to Cain. Fans also shared their sympathy for the fighter and the hashtag #freecain was also used to support the fighter.
After his bail was denied for the second time, MMA fans have once again stood for Cain and have shown their displeasure about the bail denial. MMA fans seem to be angry about the fact that Cain is in jail, whereas Harry, who is accused of child molestation, is walking free.
Here’s how MMA Fans have reacted to Cain’s Bail Denial:
A fan has even condemned Cain’s action and said that there are consequences for everyone’s actions. Fan wrote: “He’s gone for a long time. Reckless actions have serious consequences. You can’t take the law into your own hands and then shoot the wrong guy… The man that molested his child should be locked up with him in the same cell.”
Cain’s next formal plea hearing is scheduled to take place on June 10. If Cain is convicted of all charges, then he could potentially face 20 years of life in prison.
