“I never bend down,” Muhammad Mokaev outrages at Russian politicians who call him one of his own after making him seek refuge in the UK

Muhammad Mokaev

Muhammad Mokaev has all the love and appreciation for the place where he grew to become one of the best flyweights in the world, however, he doesn’t feel the same for his birth nation. Mokaev was born in Dagestan, Russia from where he had to fly away along with his father in his early childhood to seek refuge in the UK in order to get away safely from some unwanted political insurgency. Mokaev went on to become an amateur mixed martial artist and that too an undefeated one for 23 straight bouts.

After being a world champion on an amateur level, Mokaev was ready to make waves in the professional fight scene. Mokaev went on to become 6-0 with a no contest before entering the UFC. On his debut, Mokaev had the privilege to fight in the UFC London event, where he scored a spectacular knockout followed by a submission finish in the opening round over Cody Durden. Mokaev is now heading this weekend with his presence in another UFC London fight card and this time against Charles Johnson.

Muhammad Mokaev says will stand up for the people and country that helped him grow

Muhammad Mokaev talks about his choice of flag for UFC London

In an outrageous tweet, Muhammad Mokaev said “Mad how Russian politicians are going crazy because I lift UK flag, 5 years ago I was nobody to them, now they use my name everywhere, I will never bend down in front of politicians, I always stand up for my people and will represent the country that help led me growing up!”

Fair to say Mokaev did find his purpose in fighting through his early teenage days in Manchester, England from when he began to devote himself to training solely for the sport of MMA and today he has achieved an undefeated status through a total of 30 fights in his overall MMA career, both amateur and professional, all by the age of 21 years old.

What do you make of Muhammad Mokaev’s outrage toward the Russian politicians? Do you think Mokaev is doing the right thing by raising his voice against the oppression of his right to represent an entity of his choice? Or should he pay his equal dues to his birth nation as well and hence carry both the UK and Russian flags? What are your thoughts on the involvement of unwanted politics in an athlete’s life? Also, who do you think wins this weekend between Mokaev and Johnson?
