Former UFC welterweight Nate Diaz faced legal trouble before his boxing match with YouTuber Jake Paul. The legal trouble was regarding an incident where a Logan Paul lookalike named Rodney Peterson tried to instigate a fight with Diaz. This altercation ended with Diaz choking Peterson unconscious. However, a final decision has come regarding this case. Diaz’s representative in the case released a statement in relation to this case.
Diaz’s representative, Zach Rosenfield, said, “Today, the Orleans Parish District Attorney informed us they will not be pursuing a case against Nate Diaz. Since Rodney Peterson sought out to fight Nate on Bourbon Street, we have maintained Nate’s actions were 100% in self-defense. It was clear on video, clear in pictures, and clear from the multiple other videos Rodney posted before and after. Nate has a right to defend himself against those who want to make a name for themselves and did so. We appreciate the Orleans Parish District Attorney taking the time to review all aspects of this case and their decision to not proceed with it.“
This incident took place in the New Orleans street after a Misfits Boxing event. Later, Diaz turned himself in to the police department after committing the act. He was charged with a second-degree battery felony.
Diaz has left UFC after his last appearance at UFC 279 against Tony Ferguson. The Stockton-based fighter recently went ten rounds with YouTuber Jake Paul. However, Diaz lost to Paul on his boxing debut in a unanimous decision.
Rampage Jackson reveals Nate Diaz’s multiple injuries during Jake Paul’s fight
Former UFC fighter Nate Diaz took on YouTuber Jake Paul in a boxing match on August 5, 2023. The fight took place in the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The fight resulted in the YouTuber’s win over Diaz in a unanimous decision. However, a huge reveal came out as former UFC champion, Rampage Jackson gave insight on Diaz’s condition.

Rampage said that Diaz was suffering from an injury during his fight with Paul. After the fight, Rampage visited Diaz’s locker room, where he found out that Diaz was withstanding a pulled muscle. Diaz revealed to Jackson that he had a pinched nerve in his back, which was slowing him down. Further, Rampage gave respect to Diaz for not revealing this detail in the post-fight press conference.
Even after going through such pain, Diaz didn’t give up. His relentless pressure made it extremely difficult for Paul to stop him in the early rounds. Although on the judges’ scorecard, Diaz was way behind Paul in punches thrown.
