The Diaz brothers are legends in MMA. Nate Diaz and Nick Diaz stole the hearts of fans with their exciting fight style and off-screen and on-screen persona. Nick Diaz made his name in MMA first as the Strikeforce welterweight champion and UFC title challenger. Nate Diaz followed suit as he won the Ultimate Fighter Season 5 lightweight tournament. However, it was fights with Conor McGregor that elevated him to stardom. Both brothers had a contentious relationship with Dana White and the UFC.
Recently, a clip went viral on social media about an interview with Nate Diaz after his first fight with Conor McGregor. This is what Diaz revealed in the interview.
My first UFC contract, I believed I was rich. .... After my UFC contract, I realized I wasn't rich. If you watch the fighter when I won The Ultimate Fighter, I look at Dana White, I go, 'I'm rich! I'm rich!' I had a plan to buy my mom a house and buy a Cadillac...He's like, 'Well, how much money are you looking to spend?' And I was like, 'Well, I got 16 grand, I want to spend like probably 10.' And he was like, 'Alright, come over here.' And he looked at this little Honda Civic. I came back a couple of days later, we had this dorky-looking Honda, .... I was like, 'Yeah, this is it.' And I'm like, 'How much is the house?' ....I have like four grand left. I was like, 'Wait a minute, I can't buy a house for my mom?'Nate Diaz via YT
Diaz made millions with two fights with McGregor. He did not even fight for three years after a majority decision loss to McGregor at UFC 202. Diaz’s total fight purse paled compared to his purse for his fight with McGregor at UFC 196.
Nate Diaz recently had a boxing match with Jake Paul. He lost the fight via unanimous decision. Paul called for a rematch in MMA under the PFL. However, Diaz declined to fight at PFL. Nonetheless, the offer is still on the table for Diaz.
Nate Diaz rumored to fight Jorge Masvidal in a boxing match
Rumors speculate of a Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal boxing match in 2024. Diaz left the UFC after defeating Tony Ferguson at UFC 279. On the other hand, Masvidal retired from the UFC after a unanimous decision loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. Moreover, Diaz and Masvidal fought for the inaugural BMF title at UFC 244, where Masvidal won by doctor stoppage.
In an interview with TMZ, Masvidal revealed that he was returning from retirement. However, he refused to name the opponent. Noted MMA journalist Ariel Helwani had earlier reported that a Diaz vs Masvidal boxing match was in the works. Masvidal was open to boxing Diaz as he already had success against Diaz in their MMA match.
In addition to Diaz, Jake Paul is also a potential opponent for Masvidal. Paul and Masvidal were at loggerheads with each other but recently settled their feud. Moreover, Masvidal even appeared on Paul’s podcast. As for Diaz, rumors speculate a return to the UFC at UFC 300.
