The proposed bout between Nate Diaz and Khamzat Chimaev was a mismatch to say the least. Seeing it get cancelled, a lot of Nate Diaz fans breathed easier.

Despite what was made of the fiasco surrounding UFC 280’s main event – one thing cannot be disputed. The thing in question is veteran Nate Diaz’s professionalism. Finding a tough opponent in Khamzat Chimaev, Nate Diaz never erred from his duty – he weighed in below the welterweight threshold. Then, he went on to submit new opponent Tony Ferguson.

That is why his teammate, Nick Maximov has come forward to shower praise on him, while also blasting Chimaev. He said, “Nate’s a ‘G’ forever, and I think the way Khamzat approached that sh*t showed his true colors. That’s some b*tch-made sh*t. I mean, I don’t care what you do at the end of your career or whatever bro – you cant be doing sh*t like that.”

Meanwhile, he also had respect for Kevin Holland, saying that he did a “pretty good job”. Although the fight was over within a single round, what is commendable is the fact that Holland quickly signed the dotted line after the whole card had to be given a new look; which won him plaudits.

Bo Nickal seems like the name on everyone’s mouths right now. He is being labelled a phenom – someone who has transitioned from a pure wrestling base to fighting in the octagon with ease.

Nick Maximov seems to be interested in a potential bout against Nickal. He said, “I would love to fight Bo Nickal. How can you say you’re going to compete with a top 10, top 15 guy, and no offense to Jamie Pickett, but fight Jamie Pickett? F*cking crazy, right? It just doesn’t make sense. These guys just say anything for a headline.”

In these statements, Maximov seems to be echoing the words of other experts of MMA, including Daniel Cormier who sort of told Bo Nickal off for calling out the likes of Khamzat Chimaev and Logan Paul even before his debut in the promotion.

Both Maximov and Nickal are middleweights. While Nickal is 26 years old, Maximov is just 24. It would be interesting to see if the young prospects could entertain a fight in the future. If Nate Diaz were to corner Maximov, the fight would instantly sell out.

But, first, Nick Maximov must get the ball rolling again after losing for the first time in his career to Andre Petroski. He faces Jacob Malkoun this weekend at the UFC Fight Night at the Apex.
