“She’s a SUPERSTAR,” NFL Prospect Jacub Panasiuk is all praise for fellow Polish athlete and MMA legend Joanna Jedrzejczyk
Joanna Jedrzejczyk- Jacub Panasiuk
Jacub Panasiuk is one of the fastest rising prospects in the NFL currently. After being all-time great alumni of the football team of Michigan State University (MSU), Panasiuk will try to make a huge statement in the team of the Washington Commanders where he plays the position of a defensive end. Panasiuk tied for the record of the most games played for MSU. He also had one of the best career notes in the year 2021.
Besides that, on a personal note, Panasiuk takes huge pride in his Polish heritage. And with that said, we can proceed by saying that Panasiuk is also a huge fan of the Polish athletes representing Poland in the UFC. The rise of Polish MMA fighters is much more evident than ever before and the Polish MMA organization KSW is the premiere reason behind this. Today, we have former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz and UFC lightweight Mateusz Gamrot as the most popular active fighters out of Poland.
Jacub Panasiuk believes Joanna Jedrzejczyk is still viewed as an amazing athlete despite being out of her prime time
But despite men like Gamrot and Blachowicz, none have pioneered the Polish MMA scene the way former UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk did. Joanna is not only the first ever UFC champion out of Poland but also the longest reigning strawweight champion in a single run with the most title defences. In an interview taken back in January 2022, Jacub Panasiuk talks about the impact of Joanna’s legacy in her birth nation of Poland.
“She’s a superstar,” Panasiuk said. “Poland is such a small country compared to the United States that people don’t realize in the U.S. there’re hundreds of stars, athletes that just stick out to everybody. If you’re the face of a sport in Poland, any sport, you’re going to have a lot of pride behind you. She still is viewed as an amazing athlete representing the country of Poland.” [h/t ufc.com]
Joanna retired from the sport of MMA right after her last fight at UFC 275 when she got knocked out by fellow former champion Zhang Weili. Joanna left the sport as one of the greatest women’s mixed-martial artists of all time. How do you assess Joanna’s overall combat sports career? Also, how do you see Panasiuk peaking his potential in the NFL?
