Robert Whittaker x Paulo Costa
Paulo Costa wishes to test himself against the very best as he tries to rise back to the top at middleweight. Robert Whittaker has been a stable at the top spot since he lost his title to Adesanya. The terrifying fact is that apart from Adesanya, Whittaker has never seemed threatened in the octagon.
Here is where Paulo Costa can make things interesting. Whittaker is what you may call an offensive striker, while Costa is something beyond that, at times a pure berserker relying on his physicality to overpower and shut down opponents. Up until he faced Adesanya, Costa had been on an unbelievable 13-0 run with all of them apart from Romero coming via early KO/TKOs.
However, since that fateful fight at UFC 253, Costa seems to have lost his touch a bit, with his controversial fight week and fight with Vettori which he ended up losing. However, his most recent performance, while enthralling was still unable to get his knockout victory against a Luke Rockhold who would retire that night.
Paulo Costa wants to stop Robert Whittaker and head on to a title shot

Whittaker on the other hand has shown to be consistent beyond comparison as was evident in his most recent bout against Marvin Vettori. Despite his second-round TKO loss to Izzy, (Similar to Costa) he came back stronger than ever with consecutive wins over Darren Till, Jared Cannonier and Kelvin Gastelum.
This would earn him a title shot and this time would go the distance against Adesanya in a very close fight. He proved that he’s miles above the rest of the division with his return against Vettori but also that he’s still a touch below the champion himself.
Costa believes that in a world where he clashes against Whittaker he won’t be relying on the judges. On Twitter, the Brazilian called out the Aussie shortly after his win over Vettori.
“When I fight Whittaker, it won’t be by decision, I’ll go for the knockout. I hope he doesn’t change divisions before then” , read Costa’s call out. Costa while capable of having knockouts to his name has found it difficult to do so against smart fighters in the past.
Whittaker on the other hand has promised to stay active among the top contenders while he waits for a spot at the title to open up. Currently, he is ranked #1 while Costa is down at #6.
