Seems like Paulo Costa isn’t afraid to troll any living species on this planet, even if it’s someone as scary as Khamzat Chimaev. Costa is coming off his first-ever win over a former world champion in Luke Rockhold at UFC 278. Costa won the fight via unanimous decision which was more or less a blood fest, thanks to the already settled bad blood between both the fighters. Rockhold is now retired and Costa is nearing the end of his current UFC contract but is hunting the next opponent that will lead him to another title fight in future.
Costa started off undefeated in his first 13 professional fights in MMA with wins over the likes of Johnny Hendricks, Yoel Romero and Uriah Hall. Costa’s undefeated status was taken by the hands of current UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. In the following fight, Costa also lost a unanimous decision to Marvin Vettori in a fight that was originally meant to be a middleweight bout but due to Costa’s weigh-in debacle, it shifted to light-heavyweight.
Paulo Costa calls Nate Diaz “the real gangster”
In one of his tweets, Paulo Costa put on a picture of MMA legends and disciples of Cesar Gracie, Jake Shields and Nate Diaz and wrote in the captions using their official Twitter handle “Look those guys @jakeshieldsajj and @NateDiaz209 . Nate is a real gangster not Chimaev. He lives in Sweden with couple nerds. He’s just a gourmet Chen Chen cake *inserts cup cake emoji*” Costa is indicating that more or less, Diaz has a way tougher and manly lifestyle than UFC welterweight Khamzat Chimaev claims himself to have lived.
Basically, Costa is giving his support to Diaz, who is going to fight Chimaev this week at UFC 279 in T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. This will be Chimaev’s first 5-round fight and also the first time as the main event of any UFC fight card, however, this will also be Diaz’s last UFC fight. Diaz is one of the most well-known names in all of MMA history. He is the younger brother of MMA legend Nick Diaz.
Who do you think will win the fight between Diaz and Chimaev at UFC 279? In just his fifth UFC fight and his eleventh professional fight overall, Chimaev was battle-tested yet won against a former title challenger in Gilbert Burns back in April 2022. He has a one-punch knockout power, insane cardio to blast throughout all the rounds and most importantly, exceptionally good grappling as compared to his welterweight counterparts.
However, Diaz is no joke when it comes to finishing his opponents off, whether it comes to a TKO win via his voluminous striking or a submission win with his smooth and slick grappling arsenal. Diaz has wins over the likes of Melvin Guillard, Gray Maynard, Anthony Pettis, Conor McGregor, Jim Miller, Donald Cerrone, Michael Johnson and many more.
