“He did not accept to be vaccinated”: Paulo Costa is under police custody after he allegedly elbowed a nurse
Paulo Costa arrested
Paulo Costa has found himself in trouble again but this time it’s not for missing weight. The Brazilian star who has been an outspoken advocate of the country’s president Jair Bolsanaro and shares his anti-vaccine stance was involved in an incident that saw him take away a vaccination card without ever taking the vaccine.
The alleged incident took place in the late hours of 30th May at a shopping center in Contagem, Brazil in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. According to G1 Globo, the dispute took place when Costa entered a vaccination facility asking to be provided with a dose. However, as his vaccination cards were being filled up the 31-Year-Old former UFC title challenger asked to be handed the card and not be injected with the vaccine.
A municipal guard working at the hospital described the dispute that occurred as follows, “The card was filled out. The workers said that at the time of application he did not accept to be vaccinated, he wanted to leave with the card and they did not accept it.” As most people are well aware a vaccine card is proof of your immunization against COVID and carrying it without being immunized is outright illegal. It was following this disagreement between the clinic staff and Costa that a nurse was allegedly elbowed by the fighter according to the guard Marco Mota

Paulo Costa says he did not intentionally elbow anyone
The fighter’s side of the story was slightly different. A source close to Costa revealed that Costa had already taken the vaccine and wanted to leave with his card, something that the staff did not allow. Following this, the fighter claimed he was stressed out by the ordeal and tried to leave the facility after grabbing his vaccination card. At this point, he was grabbed by the staff working at the vaccination center prompting him to break free. According to the source, no mention of an elbow being thrown was made.
While the nurse did not need any medical attention, she did complain about her lips being swollen. All parties associated to the incident were referred to the Police Station under whose jurisdiction the incident occurred. Costa is scheduled to face former Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold and it’s unclear if the incident will cause any delays to the bout.
