UFC fighter Paulo Costa underwent three surgeries for his staph infection. He was scheduled to fight co-main event against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294. Initially, Costa intended to stay on the card after his recent surgery but had to undergo another procedure in the end. He posted updates on Instagram regarding the surgery and regretted being unable to compete.

Recently, Costa has started to recover well from the staph infection. Reeling from the procedural surgeries, he aims to get back in shape. In a since-deleted tweet, he had light-heartedly joked about perturbing his doctors. His post-surgery activities have not sat well with the doctors. This is what Costa wrote:

Doctors after surgery: This mot***f***er keep training, get in brawls and punch somebody, rides a camel, overturned a rally car wtf...

Costa attended UFC 294 to witness the performance of Khamzat Chimaev. Costa was not impressed by the Chechen’s performance. Even now, he remains eager to return to shape and compete against Chimaev. This week, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to post a shadowboxing video of him. He wrote:

As of late, Costa was also involved in a ringside brawl at UFC 294. It was later shed light on that it all started with some rude hand gestures. MMA expert Matysek identified Shovkhal Churchaev, a fighter from Russia, as one of the assailants. Nevertheless, it did not escalate into a big controversy as the security staff handled it well. Fight fans look forward to seeing Costa returning to the octagon soon.

Paulo Costa extends a jested invite to Sean Strickland

Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience #149, Dan Henderson recently discussed Sean Strickland. The UFC veteran stated that he had to release Strickland due to his disorderly and disrespectful conduct towards other fighters. Henderson and commentator/host Joe Rogan discussed Strickland’s defense strategy, noting his ability to possibly endure longer rounds, such as even in round 5 with Israel Adesanya.

Costa went on X to invite Strickland to his gymnasium and training camp at Favela. However, he told Strickland that only people of color and Mexican origin and heritage practiced there. Strickland is famous for being a non-tolerant loose canon within the promotion. He has overtly ranted against multiple topics. They have included transgender orientation, Palestine conflicts, homosexuality, and so on. Costa knew to use that to his advantage on cue.

Costa’s most recent performance was at UFC 278 in August 2022, where he secured a unanimous decision victory over Luke Rockhold in Salt Lake City, ending his two-loss streak. Currently, he is benched, reeling from his staph infection. He will return to the octagon in 2024.
