Petr Yan calls out Deiveson Figueiredo after no acceptance of his challenge at bantamweight
Deiveson Figueiredo- Petr Yan
Former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan is looking for a fight but is having a hard time for someone to call back his challenge in the division he once ruled. Yan, who last fought and lost to current bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling in a close fight at UFC 273, has been looking to get his way back to a trilogy with Sterling anyhow since Yan thought that he won the rematch and deserved to be crowned the new champion.
Yan is a seasoned striker who likes to approach the first round with the intention to make a read of his opponent and then plan out what to throw in the following rounds. Fair to say, Yan does fight like a human-computer. Yan has managed to have won over the likes of Urijah Faber, Jose Aldo, Cory Sandhagen, Jimmie Rivera, John Dodson and many more. Besides his most recent callout, Yan has been on a back and forth with combat sports legend Henry Cejudo– who’s coming out of retirement- to initiate a fight deal.
Petr Yan has no opponent for his next fight in 2022 after the title bout at UFC 273
Yan initially called out the top of the bantamweight division for a fight in his return to the Octagon with a tweet “This fall anyone from top of the division can get it” But no one responded to Yan’s challenge. The reason why even Cejudo didn’t respond to the general callout as well is that Cejudo is returning to fight for the bantamweight title against Aljamain Sterling. Eventually, Cejudo would also like to challenge for the featherweight title as well.
After no response, Yan wrote “No one at 135 wants it… Figgy? @Daico_Deiveson” Yan tagged current UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo to move up and fight in the bantamweight division. A move to bantamweight must surely be in Figueiredo’s future as a fighter for the champ has a history of missing weight at the weigh-ins. Figueiredo is known for his wins over the likes of Brandon Moreno, Joseph Benavidez, Alexandre Pantoja, Tim Elliott, Alex Perez and many more.
Who do you think would win if a fight ever happens between Petr Yan and Deiveson Figueiredo? Do you think Yan’s callout of a flyweight was fair considering no one responded at bantamweight? Also, do you see Yan becoming a world champion again? Who should be next in line against Figueiredo’s title defence?
