Petr Yan will fight top contenders in the UFC bantamweight division. But only at his convenience.

Chito Vera recently has called out the former bantamweight champion for a potential title contender fight. Vera recently put the division on notice with his win against top contender Rob Font. Marlon now is eyeing a fight against the contenders ranked above him and finding the shortest route possible for a bantamweight title fight.

Chito is confident that a win over Yan will for sure guarantee him a title shot. “I think that’s the path to the belt, number one contender,” said Chito talking to The Schmo about a potential fight with Russian bantamweight Petr Yan. To double down on his call-out, Chito also took to Twitter where he wrote, “@PetrYanUFC b*tch out august 13th.”

However, it doesn’t seem likely that we will be seeing Yan in the octagon anytime soon. The fighter has confirmed with a reply of his own that he will be back in the octagon in either September or October. Yan is coming off a devastating title fight defeat to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 273.

“If you want to fight the best you can wait till September/October, but if you want to just to be ufc’s b*tch and fill out the spot in August you can fuck off and don’t waste my time,” wrote Petr responding to Chito’s offer to fight.

Marlon Vera entered the top five rankings of the bantamweight division with a dominating win over Rob Font. He fought Rob on May 1st and the Ecuadorian is ready to fight two/three more times in the year 2022. Chito has said made it his goal to fight for the bantamweight title by the beginning of 2023.

Petr is currently ranked #1 in the bantamweight division but it is very unlikely that he will get another immediate title shot against Sterling who clearly dominated him during the fight. Yan also has the option of fighting Jose Aldo who is ranked #3. Do you think Petr will fight Chito this year?
