Petr Yan shares a hilarious video of confronting “Sean O’Malley” in Phuket, Thailand

Yan will face O'Malley in the co-main event at UFC 280

Petr Yan had his first face-off with Sean O’Malley months before their fight in October. Well kind of.

Yan who spends most of his camp at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, Thailand decided that it was as good a place as any to have his first face-to-face with Sean and it was hilariously in character for the former Bantamweight Champion.

Yan lost his rematch to regain his title against Aljamain Sterling all the way back at UFC 273 where he was dominated on the ground for the second and third rounds, bagging Sterling a close decision victory. Yan had originally lost his title in 2020 when he hit Sterling with an illegal knee while his opponent was grounded ultimately leading to his disqualification.

Since that rematch, Yan has decided to take time off from the sport to spend time with his family. That was all over when his fight against the company’s favorite prospect Sean O’Malley was announced to take place at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. Since then Yan has been dedicating himself in camp and has gotten back to his roots at TMT in Thailand.

Yan has argued that he deserved to win the rematch against Sterling as he felt he won the first round

Many have called into question the need for the fight as Yan has seemingly already proven that he belongs among the best in the division while O’Malley is yet to win a fight against someone in the top 10, the only time he stepped into the cage with someone who had a high ranking next to his name, the bout ended Inconclusively. This was against Pedro Munhoz when their bout was stopped in R2 due to an eyepoke from O’Malley.

Yan realizes that though he’s more proven and tested than O’Malley is, the creativity in his striking and his legitimately heavy shots are something even he needs to prepare for and hence spends his time training among the best strikers of the world in Thailand.

During one of the many breaks between the dawn to dusk training sessions, Yan happens to run into a fan who shared the same lanky physique and afro as O’Malley. Yan saw the opportunity, took out his phone, and started filming as he approached the fan.

“Sean! Sean! SEAN!”, exclaimed the former champ getting the fans’ attention as he finally began to turn, ” Sean How are you brother” said Yan as the fan smiled back and they shook hands. Before leaving Yan said, “Bon Apetit” as he tagged O’Malley’s actual account on the post and promised to not “Beat you up before the fight”

Yan has previously done the same antics during the lead-up to his bout against Sterling, although that might have been in slightly poor taste. In the video he was seen filming a homeless man as he called out to him as though he were Sterling.
