Fans made fun of him on Twitter posting comments like, “PTSD kicked in.” They were referring to the two times Robert Whittaker faced Israel Adesanya in the octagon.

Robert Whittaker first lost his title to Israel Adesanya at UFC 243 where Adesanya dethroned him via second-round knockout. Then in their rematch at UFC 271, the fight went to the judges who declared Adesanya as the winner. Whittaker is currently #2 in the UFC’s middleweight rankings and is waiting for a title shot. Adesanya winning back the middleweight title may just have disrupted Whittaker’s plans of reclaiming his championship title.

Whittaker had a decent chance of facing Pereira for the middleweight championship before the Brazilian lost the title against Izzy.“I’m in a tricky position,” Whittaker said to Submission Radio. “I know this. Especially with Izzy winning that fightI will never stop. I will never stop coming for him.

Whittaker would not only have been a natural choice for Pereira to defend his title against given his inexperience but he would even be considered the favorite. “The Reaper” is 13-2 in his last 15 fights, with his only two defeats coming to Adesanya.

Whittaker tackles the claims of him getting depressed or nervous after Adesanya won. “I want that fight… I’m aiming for the belt. OK. But it’s not the same. I want to take the belt off Izzy.” He said that he simply had a different course of action in mind. “That’s my reaction for every freaking fight that ends spectacularly.

Everybody in the division is now ready to face Adesaya for a title shot. Pereira is rumored to be moving up the weight class. Islam Makhachev has already expressed his will to fight Robert Whittaker. Thus the UFC Middleweight division is thriving right now and with upcoming matchups, it will be interesting to see who Dana White comes up with for the next fight card.
