“You want to squash this right now?” – Quinton Jackson almost dropped Ariel Helwani over a confused lingo

Known to be a top MMA journalist, Ariel Helwani finds himself in trouble at times. While he has had run-ins with several UFC fighters, his feuds with Quinton Jackson are very popular.

Recently Ariel Helwani posted a video on Instagram from his old interview with Jackson. While the interview went on, Jackson pointed out the hatred he received from Helwani in the past, Helwani clearly denied the allegation, and that’s when the real fun started.

Helwani said, “You wanna squash this right now?” which kind of caught Jackson off guard and the former champion replied in an impulsive way whether he wanted to throw some hands. When he realized that things were about to take a wrong turn Helwani rectified his mistake and said, “I mean, squash the beef between us.”

Jackson then educated Helwani that he is from Memphis and ‘squash’ is a fighting word and never to use that again at least in front of an MMA guy. Jackson even advised Helwani to learn some Memphis lingo so that he won’t get into another false altercation like this. The video set many fans and personalities to have a good laugh though.

It’s been a while since the ‘Rampage’ has stepped foot inside a cage or a ring. The last time fans saw the former UFC Champion was in a fight against Fedor Emelianenko at Bellator 237 where he suffered a TKO loss, and that was almost three years ago.

Recently, Jackson had an interview with TMZ, where he talked about an ongoing rumor of him having a boxing match against Shannon Briggs, and did not knock the possibilities out of this rumor being true. He still has a bad memory of him getting knocked out for the first time in 14 years and tells how he doesn’t want his career to end on a bad note.

He said, “No, man. I ain’t done. I’m not happy with my performance in my last fight. I can’t leave MMA fans like that. … Yeah, I’m going to leave this sport a little better. … Like I said, I’m in talks with fighting Shannon (Briggs), finally. That fight has been almost a year in the making. I want to do some boxing before I retire. … I might do MMA, but I want to do boxing. I’m getting up there. I’m 44, man. I’m getting up there. My knees (hurt) from wrestling. When you’re doing MMA, a lot of people want to take you down.”

Seems like the match is most probably on its way after hearing Jackson’s statements. Jackson, 44 has an age advantage over Briggs who is 50 now and fought his last boxing bout in 2016. Fans are now waiting eagerly for the ‘Rampage’ to return and win the fight to flush out his bad memory.
