Weight cuts affect fighters, and they use different methods to recover from the challenging cuts. Rehydration after a weight cut remains necessary for fighters to compete at their optimum level. However, rising featherweight contender Ilia Topuria has a unique way of cutting weight. It involves drinking wine before and after officially making weight.
The featherweight star spoke about a method that always worked for him. Ilia Topuria said, “It is something that always worked for me, everytime I cut weight. It helps me feel good and I follow traditions. Dehydrate more than usual helps me lost weight. We celebrate everything that god provides. People are always chasing success. I chase happiness because for me success means to be happy with myself.” (HT – ESPN MMA)
In the past, former champion Chris Weidman used peanut butter to cut weight. It worked for the middleweight fighter. Similarly, Topuria’s wine routine works for him as he never misses weight to this day. The undefeated fighter holds an undefeated record in his career. He will face perennial contender Josh Emmett in Jacksonville, Florida. They will headline the upcoming UFC on ABC card.
Topuria may be a win or two away from challenging for the title. Emmett is a top contender, and a win over the American fighter can put Topuria in a good spot. It does not look like Max Holloway will get another crack at the title, and with no other contenders near Topuria, the fighter could potentially fight for the title later this year.

Ilia Topuria expects to finish champion Alexander Volkanovski quickly
Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and interim champion Yair Rodriguez will fight at UFC 290 to unify the title. Meanwhile, rising star Ilia Topuria will fight Josh Emmett in Jacksonville, Florida. Topuria may get the title shot with a win over Emmett.
However, Topuria remains keen on getting the title shot and defeating Volkanovski. He said, “I’m the next guy in the line. I’m going to finish him in the first round. Of course it’s going to be a little bit bigger to beat someone who is pound-for-pound No. 1. It’s going to be bigger than if Yair beats him, and I beat Yair.”
The undefeated fighter confidently said he could defeat Yair and Volk in a potential fight. Despite maintaining confidence, Topuria noted that he was not overlooking anyone and worked harder than everyone else.
