Rose Namajunas is one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC. Her run as the strawweight champion was a short-lived but entertaining one. She recently opened up on the MMA Hour podcast hosted by UFC journalist Ariel Helwani. She spoke about how she felt the need to retire after her controversial loss to Carla Esparaza which caused her to lose her championship.

Namajunas got candid with Helwani about how certain factors in her life almost made her retire. She said, “Yeah, I definitely thought I was done for a good amount of time. There were a number of things, but the way I felt going into the locker room. I just didn’t feel aggressive and I don’t really want to hurt anybody.”

Namajunas also talked about how the decision was also spiritually influenced. She believes that it was a spiritual issue that caused her to question whether she wanted to continue. She also said how it didn’t really fit into “leading a godly life“. Her only reason to come back was that she believed that fighting is her calling. The former strawweight champion also talked about “warrior spirit”.

After her title loss “Thug” is all set to return at UFC Paris to face Manon Fiorot in her debut as a flyweight. Namajunas is a renowned personality in the UFC. She is regarded as one of the most skilled female fighters globally and serves as a source of inspiration for young women. After her dominant victories over Weili Zhang, Namjunas was termed one of the most skillful fighters in the strawweight division. Her move up to the flyweight division has left fans shocked. In the interview, she also explained why she wanted to move up in weight and chose a top-ranked opponent.

Namajunas also told Helwani about her health affecting the move. She explained, ” I never really cut much weight up until the last few years… Each fight it’s just been a little bit more and more. And even though I got better at cutting, I also felt like, ‘Man, this can’t be healthy.” She also talked about her disinterest in continuing at strawweight.

Namajunas is renowned for her aggressive fighting style and her remarkable ability to finish fights. With 11 knockouts and 5 submissions to her credit, she has established herself as a force to be reckoned with in the ring. Additionally, she has won the Performance of the Night award twice.
