Rose Namajunas makes her title defense against her former rival Carla Esparza as she meets her for the second time. The first-ever strawweight title shot was held between Namajunas and Esparza. Carla got the better of Rose in their first meeting and the current champ finally gets the chance to avenge her loss.
Rose has evolved a lot since her loss to Carla and this fight is a match made in heaven. The two strawweights will take the center stage of Footprint Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. Carla is on a five-fight winning streak and is looking to finally reclaim her strawweight belt. Esparza has a record of 19-6-0 in her professional career.

Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza throw an uneventful fight
Round 1 Both the fighters take the center stage. Namajunas waits on her heels as she waits for Carla to go for the takedown. No strikes landed within a minute into the fight. Rose looking to maintain distance and hoping for her opponent to make the first move. Rose draws first blood by throwing a jab at Carla’s face. No effective strikes were thrown from both the fighters.
Round 2 No change of plans from the corners as they head into the second round. Namajunas still keeping distance and just throwing feints. Carla finally shoots for the takedown but gets defended by Rose. Still no significant strikes from both the fighters. A low kick attempt from Carla that misses. No action for two rounds.
Round 3 Finally both the fighters come into contact and Carla Esparza finally gets a takedown but Rose gets right back up. A left hand from Esparza but doesn’t do much. Still, no significant strikes were thrown during the entire fight. Fifteen minutes of no action in a strawweight title fight.
Round 4 Pat Barry and Trevor Wittman gave contradicting advice to Rose heading into the fourth round. Carla gets the back of Rose but the champ gets out of trouble. Esparza still gets a takedown scored for her. This is undoubtedly the least happening fight in the promotion. Both the fighters showing no signs of action. Carla takes the back of Rose and gets the takedown. Finally, some action as Rose Namajunas lands a right hand.
Round 5 Final round and the two fighters still fighting a chess match. Esparza looking for a takedown but she fails to get it. Rose Namajunas gets a right hand. Carla responds with a left hand which is countered by the champ with a right. A takedown from Rose Namajunas in the final seconds might have just sealed the fight. This is undoubtedly a “stinker of all stinkers”.
