Michel Pereira is one of the most exciting fighters on the UFC roster right now, known for his entertaining style, Pereira started picking up wins against some top guys, and he faced Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC Vegas 55. It was a constant back and forth battle, but Pereira did just enough to get the decision.

Santiago Ponzinibbio has not managed to find his right grove ever since he returned to the UFC in 2021, after a long 3 years lay-off. The Welterweight is 3-1 in his last four, and his last two losses came as a result of a narrow split decision. We’ve seen some terrible scoring from judges in the recent past, the main event contest between Holly Holm and Ketlen Vieira sparked a controversy. Holly had almost twice as significant strikes, and considerably more control time over her opponent, she was expected to win the fight, but the judges gave a slight edge to Ketlen.

Santiago talked about his last loss in an interview with MMA Junkie, he truly believes he won that fight, and he gave his reasoning for the same. “When I was in there fighting, it’s the same as when I rewatched it,” Ponzinibbio said. “First round I put pressure and I controlled the distance. But he moved and it was difficult to maintain the distance, and he landed a couple more punches, and he won the first round, for sure.”

He added, “The second round I closed the distance. In the first minute and a half, he take the activity, but after that, I started to work more and put more pressure and control the center of the cage. It was a very even round, but I had a couple of more punches in my favor. In the last 20 seconds, I put a takedown and scored points. And with this, I thought I won the round.”

“When I go out in the third round, I closed the distance and he started first, but after that, I put good pressure, good punches, and kicks. I put more than double the punches and for sure I won the third round. I’m pissed off for the judge who have no idea how much work there is behind the fights and they put you one, two, three steps back in the career and that’s how we lose money. We make half the money. That’s bad. Some judges are terrible,” Santiago concluded.
