“The rematch is huge”- Sean O’Malley asserts that he will fight this opponent again

One of the biggest stars in the bantamweight is undoubtedly ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley. Although O’Malley is currently preparing for a fight against the former 135lbs champ Petr Yan at UFC 280. The fight is potentially a #1 title contender match. In an interview with former champ Michael Bisping, Sean discussed his fight preparations and his last fight. He also stated his intention to fight Marlon Vera again.
It is certainly no surprise that O’Malley and Vera do not like each other at all. After their first encounter ended up in a loss for Sean. The loss to Vera is the only loss in his career. So the bad blood between them is very obvious.
Sean O’Malley is currently on a 3-fight win streak after his loss to Vera back in 2020 at UFC 252. He has become one of the biggest draws in the division in a very short span of time. With his crisp striking O’Malley has knocked out his opponent in picture-perfect fashion. After 16 fights his MMA record currently stands at 15-1.
On the other hand, Marlon Vera is currently scheduled to face the former two-time Bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz, this weekend. Vera is on a 3-fight win streak coming into this fight. He is also a -240 favourite in this fight. A win over the former champ could potentially mean a title shot for Chito next.
Sean O’Malley is looking to avenge his sole loss
O’Malley and Vera faced each other in 2020 at UFC 252 Miocic vs. Cormier 3. Vera defeated O’Malley via TKO in round one. They already didn’t liked each other before the fight. The anti-climatic end to their fight only seemed to make it worse. The loss at the hands of Chito is the only loss in the UFC star’s carrier.
In a recent interview with Michael Bisping on his YouTube channel, Sugar show discussed his previous match with Pedro Munhoz, his upcoming matchup with Petr Yan, his fight preparation and a potential rematch with Vera.
While talking on the topic of his match against Yan, the UFC star stated, “I’m gonna beat up Petr and then I do believe I have good shot at all those guys, You know the Chito Vera rematch is huge, people would love to see that one back.”
He further joked about their first match and stated that Chito didn’t win that fight, “I think that there’s only one person in the world that thinks he won and that’s ‘Chito’ and uh maybe some of his friends and family.” O’Malley added.
