Once again, Sean O’Malley sent a callout to Ilia Topuria for a super fight. This time, ‘Suga’ wanted to headline a massive PPV card at the Sphere, Las Vegas. The Sphere was valued at around $2.3 billion, and the UFC has booked the monumental arena for its first event there on ‘Mexican Independence Weekend.’ As such, if O’Malley’s words came true, he might be the second headliner alongside Topuria for UFC’s second outing at the Sphere.
Sean O’Malley, in a recent interview, stated if everything went right for Ilia Topuria and him, the potential super-fight between them would happen. Here is what he said:
If Ilia goes out there and beats Volk(anovski), I'm gonna go out there and beat Chito (Marlon Vera), that's the next fight. Me vs. Ilia in Las Vegas at the Sphere. Biggest card of the year! Probably sometime next year.Sean O’Malley via Shak MMA
Ilia Topuria and Sean O’Malley recently went back and forth on social media. Also, earlier, they teased a potential matchup between them and taunted each other numerous times. But, in a recent tweet, ‘El Matador’ implied the fight with O’Malley didn’t interest him due to his underwhelming PPV buys. However, ‘Suga’ remained confident about their fight.
Although Sean O’Malley vs. Ilia Topuria is an exciting matchup, they both got tasks beforehand. Firstly, Topuria has to win his fight against Alexander Volkanovksi to attain the featherweight title at UFC 298. Secondly, ‘Suga’ has to defend his bantamweight title against Marlon Vera at UFC 299. A champion vs. champion fight between the rivals would be massive if these play out as envisioned. As such, both the fighters were supremely confident in winning their next fights.
Sean O’Malley speaks about fighting Alexander Volkanovski
Alexander Volkanovski is the featherweight champion, and he puts his belt on the line against Ilia Topuria at UFC 298. Amidst this clash, Sean O’Malley had called out Topuria for a champ-champ matchup. But, it is a possibility ‘El Matador’ might not win the featherweight gold. As such, ‘Suga’ analyzed the possibility and spoke about fighting Volkanovksi and his aspirations of becoming a double champion.
Sean O’Malley said if Ilia Topuria wins against Alexander Volkanovski, he wanted the Superfight next. Here is what he said if Volk won:
If Ilia (Topuria) wins, I want it for sure. Volk(anovksi) wins, I think I stay down there and defend my belt one or two more times. I gotta be at champ-champ status. If Volk's still there, in a couple fights, that's the fight we'll take. But, we'll just go with the flow.Sean O’Malley Via Shak MMA
Sean O’Malley won the bantamweight title in his previous fight by beating Aljamain Sterling in UFC 292. As such, he faces Marlon Vera in a heated matchup for his first title defense challenge. This fight headlines the stacked card of UFC 299, which is happening in Miami.
