Bantamweight champion Sean “Suga” O’Malley recently won his gold, with a knockout of previous champion Aljamain Sterling. O’Malley faced his only pro-MMA loss to Marlon “Chito” Vera, at UFC 252, via a first-round TKO. The fighter has been adamant about avenging the skid. Hence he had chosen #6 ranked Vera for his maiden defense. The O’Malley vs. Vera rematch happens soon, at UFC 299.

In a latest tweet, the champion posted about not losing a bout, since his debut six years ago. This sentiment has caught on much flack from the sporting community. The 17-1-0 striker has also touched points on this before. This came after Vera saw defeat, fighting against Cory Sandhagen at UFC San Antonio. Sean O’Malley had thus proclaimed that his “17-1” record has now been overturned to “17-0”. The result, as he joked, came from the Suga State Athletic Commission. In his latest tweet, he said:

Six years ago today I made my debut. Still haven't lost.

This has not reverberated well within the fan community. Many have been overtly opposed to the notion that he ignorantly omitted his defeat to Vera. Others have prompted heavyweight Jon Jones or veteran Chael Sonnen to be the only ones in the vicinity of that kind of claim. One prominent reaction mentioned that “not only did he lose, he got stretchered out of the octagon.”

Accordingly,  O’Malley vs Vera 2 for the bantamweight title, takes place at UFC 299 on March 9, 2024.

Fans react to Sean O’Malley’s undefeated claims, omitting Marlon Vera

Sean O’Malley’s official statistics stand at 17-1, with 1 no contest. This, conversely, was due to an incident against Pedro Munhoz. In the aftermath of his loss to Vera, O’Malley had riled up his fans by saying that the defeat was just on paper. In his mind, he remained undefeated. This was during a segment with “Anatomy of a Fighter.”

The bantamweight titleholder has cued in the same now. In the latest tweet, the fighter contemplated on being undefeated since his debut six years back. This has caught some serious fan attention, who refuted the claim. Even the most hardcore fans of his own have resonated on the same. This is not the only secluded time though.

The hyped rematch between Vera and O’Malley saw the release of a new promotional video. It has been aptly given the name “The Revenge”; which is what O’Malley aspires for, despite his undefeated claims.
