Bantamweight Champion Sean O’Malley has predicted the winner of the upcoming lightweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira. He wanted Oliveira to win and also put his hopes that this Jim-Dandy feat of Oliveira would create an epic trilogy bout against the Dagestani fighter.
Islam Makhachev will rematch Charles Oliveira in the main event of UFC 294. Makhachev defeated Oliveira at UFC 280 in their first bout. O’Malley discussed the main event of UFC 294 with Joe Rogan on the JRE. Rogan praised Oliveira for dismantling Beneil Dariush in a spectacular fashion at UFC 289. O’Malley had unique thoughts about the fight. He said, “I would love to see Charles f**king win! That would make up for an interesting trilogy. Maybe call Khabib out.“
Sean O’Malley had high words of praise for Charles Oliveira. Rogan talked about the career resurgence of Charles Oliveira since moving to the lightweight division. He said people always doubted Oliveira and he always proved them wrong. Oliveira destroyed Dariush, who had a massive winning streak. Now, he will focus on winning back the title he once held.
On the other hand, Islam Makhachev did not have a great outing in the previous bout. Makhachev defended his title at UFC 284 against Alexander Volkanovski. Even though he won, many people including Joe Rogan, thought Volk did enough to win the bout. Hence, Makhachev will aim to dominate Oliveira at UFC 294. Only time will tell if O’Malley’s prediction would come true.
Sean O’Malley says Islam Makhachev is an underrated striker
Islam Makhachev is a legend in his own right as a grappling specialist. He has also evolved his striking skills over the years. He has a better stand-up ability than most people would think. Sean O’Malley considered Makhachev’s striking as an underrated aspect of the Dagestani’s game. He also called Makhachev a “Khabib hype machine.”
O’Malley pointed out that Makhachev’s quickness on his feet. O’Malley said, “Islam has very underrated striking. That motherf*cker is skilled on the feet. He’s very technical. He’s underrated on the feet, for sure.” Rogan retorted positively, indicating that Makhachev had a good torso pressure.
Regardless of stances, records/official stats, Oliveira and Makhachev are big names in the combative industry. Their upcoming rematch remains an important title fight in the lightweight division. While Makhachev is the prime defender of the crown, Oliveira is the prodigal challenger. UFC 294 features a stacked card that features the likes of Paulo Costa, Khamzat Chimaev, and others.
